The Gift of Volunteering

Saturday, December 5th is “International Volunteer Day” where people from all around the globe work together to make the world a better place. This special day was first recognized by the United Nations (UN) in 1985, as “an opportunity for us all to promote volunteerism in all communities, encourage governments to support volunteer efforts, and recognize volunteer contributions and accomplishments.” The UN’s theme for this year, 2020 is: “Together We Can Through Volunteering”.

Charter Global has been proud to partner with Open Doors in Atlanta, GA for over two years providing development resources to support their important mission: “Making Connections to End Homelessness – connecting Non-Profit organizations to real estate operators, Open Doors has created a system that works better for everyone.”

The connections include 85 Non-Profits serving the homeless community, 334 Rental Companies that rent to people with rental barriers, and 107 Management Companies helping to make the connections.

Open Doors accomplishments are worth celebrating:

  • 30 Days to find a home (on average)
  • 7,852 Placements (since 2013)
  • 1,203 Veterans placed (since 2016)
  • 685 Children (housed since 2019)

We all know that 2020 has been a difficult year for everyone and it is for that reason, we should roll-up-our sleeves, put on a mask, and get out there to help someone in need. You can also contribute from your own home, such as donating to organizations that are getting out there to volunteer. The gift you will receive is a feeling of joy that you helped someone who needed it most. Happy International Volunteer Day from Charter Global.
